Medical and analytical equipment must be selected for its intended use, technical performance and support needs. Buying a familiar Japanese brand does not establish that the exact model is suitable for your laboratory or eligible for clinical use in your country. Begin with a specification approved by the responsible professionals.
Wigmore Trading can assess sourcing and logistics enquiries for medical instruments, chemical-analysis equipment and other measuring instruments from Japan. Tell us whether the application is clinical, industrial, educational or research. That distinction affects the evidence and approvals required.
Define the application and acceptance criteria
For a medical device, identify intended use, user setting, patient or sample requirements and relevant accessories. For a chemical-analysis instrument, specify the method, sample types, measurement range and performance needed. For other measuring tools, define the task, environment and accuracy requirement.
Ask the technical team to identify essential standards and acceptance tests. A catalogue’s maximum specification may not describe performance in your real workflow. Agree what evidence will demonstrate suitability before committing to a model.
Regulatory status is product-specific
For Nigerian medical products, begin with NAFDAC’s official medical-device guidance and obtain appropriate regulatory advice. Confirm the exact product, manufacturer, importer and any applicable registration or permit route. Approval elsewhere does not automatically authorise Nigerian import or use.
A research-use instrument should not be promoted as approved for diagnosis without evidence. Used or refurbished equipment may raise additional questions about eligibility, condition and support that must be resolved before shipment.
Calibration and performance evidence
Request the documentation relevant to the actual instrument, including test records and calibration status where applicable. Check identifiers, date, scope and traceability rather than accepting a generic certificate. A recent calibration does not prove suitability for every measurement method.
Plan verification after transport and installation. A qualified laboratory or clinical team should determine when the instrument is ready for use. Define who pays for commissioning and what happens if the system fails acceptance.
Consumables, reagents and software
List recurring consumables, proprietary reagents, accessories and compatible software. Confirm supply continuity, shelf-life needs and any cold-chain requirement. An instrument priced without essential consumables may not represent the full cost of starting the service.
Check licences, user access, data export and support. If the system handles patient or other personal information, involve the responsible privacy and security personnel before deployment. Do not send real patient records as sourcing examples.
Condition and technical support
For used equipment, request model and serial number, service history, decontamination information where relevant and an inspection appropriate to the device. Agree which accessories and probes are included and whether manufacturer support is available in the receiving market.
Confirm warranty responsibility with the actual contracting supplier. Do not assume a manufacturer’s new-product warranty transfers to a used unit or covers international installation.
Shipping and site readiness
Provide packed dimensions, weight and handling constraints. Technical equipment can require protection against shock, moisture and temperature exposure. Batteries, chemicals or other regulated contents must be declared and accepted separately by competent shipping parties.
Prepare the site: utilities, space, access, environmental conditions and trained users. The receiving team should know how to check the package and report damage without compromising the evidence needed for an insurance or supplier claim.
Prepare an instrument enquiry
Send the intended use, approved technical specification, quantity, new or used preference, destination and required date. Include calibration, registration, installation and training requirements. Wigmore can assess sourcing and logistics scope and identify information needed for a written offer. Clinical and technical acceptance remain with the appropriately qualified parties.
