Fresh and frozen produce

Apples, pears and potatoes need variety, size, maturity or quality requirements, permitted defects and packaging. State the expected storage and delivery conditions. A product intended for processing may not suit the same specification as retail display.

Frozen fruits, nuts and vegetables need exact product form, preparation, pack and storage requirements. Define net content, relevant quality limits and remaining shelf life. Frozen does not mean that temperature management can be ignored during collection or customs delays.

Planting seeds

Sowing seeds require species, variety, intended use and the destination’s seed and plant-health requirements. Verify identity, treatment, germination or other quality evidence appropriate to the crop. Do not substitute food grain for seed without the required technical and legal checks.

Confirm the importer, permits, phytosanitary documentation and any quarantine conditions with the competent authorities. An exporter’s ability to sell a variety does not automatically establish permission to introduce it into another country.

Animal- or vegetable-derived fertilisers need composition, processing, intended agricultural use and destination eligibility. Do not treat an untreated animal material as an ordinary unrestricted soil product.

Source and seasonal availability

Identify the grower or processor and the actual production origin. Spanish dispatch can include produce originating elsewhere. Require traceability for the contractual origin and any certification claim.

Availability changes with harvest, processing and storage conditions. Ask for current lot or production information and a realistic delivery window. A previous-season sample or catalogue should not be treated as a guaranteed current allocation.

Quality and transport

Agree inspection, sampling and receiving checks. Transit estimates should allow for the actual route and regulatory steps. Confirm who decides acceptance if product condition or documentation differs from the agreed specification.
