A project-insurance enquiry should describe the work, assets, locations and contractual responsibilities before asking for a premium. Oil and gas, renewable energy, mining, construction, transport and aviation have different exposures. A general commercial policy description cannot resolve every project requirement.

Wigmore Trading supports project-information preparation and provider-coordination enquiries in Nigeria. We can help define the brief for appropriate specialists. Risk acceptance, policy terms and binding cover require the actual authorised insurance provider.

Specify the project and insured interests

Identify the operating entities, asset owners, contractors and other parties whose interests need consideration. Describe the project phase, jurisdictions, values and duration. Separate construction, commissioning, operation and transport stages.

Sector Information to establish
Energy and mining Facilities, processes, locations, dependencies and specialist exposures
Construction and machinery Works, equipment, programme, contracts and testing stages
Marine and logistics Vessel or cargo, voyage, handling, storage and responsibility
Fleet and aviation Assets, use, operators, territories and required permissions

Define the cover rather than relying on a title

Contractors’ all risks, erection all risks, machinery breakdown and plant insurance have different scopes. Ask the responsible provider to explain which project stages, property and liabilities are addressed and which are excluded.

For upstream, downstream and offshore energy, include the actual operations and interfaces. Solar projects and power plants need information about equipment, construction, operation and revenue dependencies; a label such as renewable energy does not make them uniform risks.

Connect marine and transport responsibilities

Marine hull and marine cargo address different interests. Shipping, port operations, warehousing, logistics and commercial fleets also need clearly defined activities and responsibility periods. Confirm where cover begins and ends and how it interacts with contracts.

Aircraft and airport enquiries require appropriately experienced specialists. Do not infer coverage or permitted operations from an insurance indication alone.

Prepare evidence for assessment

Use approved schedules, values, site or route information, contracts and relevant loss history. Technical surveys may be needed, with scope and access agreed. Identify which information is estimated and who can confirm it.

Hazardous processes, offshore assets and complex infrastructure should be assessed by competent professionals. This guide does not provide operating, engineering or emergency-response instructions.

Compare terms and confirm responsibility

Review limits, deductibles, exclusions, conditions and claims procedures alongside premium. Clarify survey requirements, subjectivities and evidence of binding acceptance. Verify the provider using NAICOM’s operator resources.

A commercial coordinator can organise an enquiry without becoming the insurer or broker. Agree the actual role and fee before sending confidential technical files.

Can one package cover an entire project?

Possibly, but the actual cover, interfaces and exclusions require specialist review. Do not assume every phase is included.

What should I send Wigmore?

Start with sector, location, asset or cargo type, project stage, broad values and target dates. The team can discuss preparation and coordination requirements.

Prepare your enquiry brief

Note your organisation type, location, purpose, required deliverable, systems or products involved and target dates. Identify the responsible decision-maker and distinguish preparation, analysis, administration and regulated activities.

Start with non-confidential project details. Do not send medical, identity, borrower, policyholder or private financial records through an initial sales enquiry. Agree scope, permissions and controlled access first. This checklist does not submit information.

Scope your project with Wigmore Trading

Send a non-confidential brief so we can discuss practical preparation, procurement or coordination support. The actual provider, professional scope, permissions, deliverables and commercial terms are confirmed for the engagement.
