A commercial insurance proposal should explain what the business does, what could cause a loss and which protection is required. A short request for the cheapest premium can leave important information unanswered and make quotations difficult to compare.
Wigmore Trading helps businesses scope risk-information, procurement and provider-coordination enquiries in Nigeria. Share the business activity, location and proposed review so the appropriate service can be assessed. Insurance acceptance, pricing and binding cover remain with the responsible authorised provider.
Identify the risk and the policy purpose
Commercial property, business interruption and liability cover respond to different circumstances. Political-risk protection is also a distinct enquiry; it should not be assumed included in an ordinary property policy. Identify the actual concern before comparing products.
| Requirement | Information to prepare |
|---|---|
| Property and industrial risks | Sites, assets, values, operations and protection measures |
| Business interruption | Revenue basis, dependencies, recovery assumptions and required period |
| Liability | Activities, products, customers, contracts and potential claims |
| Political or specialty risks | Jurisdictions, exposures, contracts and specific protection sought |
Distinguish the liability categories
Professional indemnity, public liability, product liability and employers’ liability should be assessed against the business’s actual activities and obligations. A policy title alone does not show which claims, people, territories or contractual liabilities are covered.
Ask the licensed provider or broker to explain limits, exclusions, conditions, deductibles and any required disclosures. For large or complex risks, identify the specialist information and surveys required instead of assuming a standard small-business proposal is sufficient.
Prepare consistent information
Use an approved asset schedule, site information and relevant claims history. Separate verified values from estimates and explain changes in operations. Check who signs the proposal and who is responsible for obtaining missing information.
Claims-history review is useful only when the periods, exposure and outstanding claims are understood. A low historic claims figure does not establish that future loss is unlikely or that coverage is adequate.
Compare quotations beyond the premium
Review the same exposure, period, limits and terms. Identify exclusions that affect the main risk, sublimits, waiting periods where relevant and how claims are notified. A lower premium may reflect narrower protection or different assumptions.
Risk-based pricing and premium adequacy require the provider’s technical assessment. This page does not quote a universal premium or promise that a business will be accepted. A quotation, indication and bound policy are different stages.
Check the provider and engagement
Use NAICOM’s operator resources to verify the actual regulated entity and role. A sourcing or consultancy engagement does not make the coordinator the insurer, broker or risk carrier.
For a terms-review project, agree the documents, questions, report, professional reviewer and limitations. Do not assume the review guarantees claim payment or replaces legal advice on a disputed policy.
Can Wigmore help compare commercial proposals?
Send a non-confidential brief describing the risk and comparison needed. The team can discuss a suitable preparation and coordination scope.
What should I send first?
Provide business activity, city, main exposures, intended cover and renewal timing. Detailed claims, employee or financial records should follow an agreed confidential process.
Prepare your enquiry brief
Note your organisation type, location, purpose, required deliverable, systems or products involved and target dates. Identify the responsible decision-maker and distinguish preparation, analysis, administration and regulated activities.
Start with non-confidential project details. Do not send medical, identity, borrower, policyholder or private financial records through an initial sales enquiry. Agree scope, permissions and controlled access first. This checklist does not submit information.
