It is also where many “gold” and “scrap” offers sent to African buyers claim to come from. Real South African supply comes with permits, and most of it is regulated. Scrap metal from South Africa
Scrap exports from South Africa are restricted under the government’s price preference system, which gives local foundries first right to buy at a discount. Some scrap does get exported legally, but only with an ITAC export permit. Ask the seller for the permit number before anything else.

Automotive and mining equipment sourcing in South Africa
When looking for an automotive supplier in South Africa, separate vehicles, service parts, industrial components and fleet consumables. Send the exact part number or vehicle specification and the delivery destination. Confirm right- or left-hand-drive configuration, emissions specification, local service support and import eligibility where a complete vehicle is involved.
For parts, compare the same manufacturer and quality category. Genuine branded, OEM-equivalent, aftermarket and reconditioned products have different evidence and warranty requirements. The supplier should identify what is being offered, not leave the buyer to infer it from the box or photograph. Use serial or chassis details to resolve compatibility questions before shipment.
A mining equipment enquiry needs the job, site conditions, expected duty and service requirements. For used equipment, inspect condition and ownership records and assess remaining support life. For processing equipment, have an engineer review the ore testwork and process basis. A machine available nearby is not necessarily suitable for the intended mine.
Platinum supplier enquiries require a defined product
Specify whether the enquiry concerns refined metal, an industrial compound, fabricated material or another form. State purity, quantity, end use, required documentation and destination. A producing country’s mineral resources do not establish a particular seller’s available stock or export authority.
Use a traceable, lawful procurement route and verify the counterparties, material ownership, applicable permissions and payment arrangements. Independent testing should be tied to the actual lot and a secure sampling process. Do not treat an assay certificate as evidence of all the commercial and legal checks needed for a transaction.
