Trade, import, logistics, sourcing — whatever you're planning, the fastest way to a quote is a WhatsApp message. Our team replies during Lagos business hours.

A USSD gateway project should begin with the service people will use and the networks it must reach. A bank menu, customer self-service journey and ordering application can share a channel while requiring different back-end systems, controls and approvals. Wigmore Trading accepts USSD platform and integration enquiries for Nigeria and wider African projects.

Send the intended users, countries, operators, service flow and current systems. We can assess a project brief and clarify technology procurement and implementation scope. Code access, operator connectivity, features and commercial terms must be confirmed for the proposed arrangement.

Distinguish the gateway, application and network service

The gateway connects the USSD channel with the service application under the provider’s architecture. The application manages the business journey and connects to approved back-end systems. Operators and relevant service providers supply their own network access and commercial conditions.

A cloud-hosted application does not by itself establish access to every operator or country. Ask which organisation provides each part, which connections are available and which dependencies remain outstanding.

Define the service and coverage

List customer tasks, required languages, countries and operators. State whether the project is for banking, fintech, ecommerce, enterprise self-service or another use. Identify the back-end owner for every action that changes an account, order or transaction.

For Africa-wide procurement, use a country-and-operator matrix. A service demonstrated in one market does not establish the same code access, charging arrangement or feature set elsewhere.

Confirm code and regulatory arrangements

The NCC short-code guidance and licensing application information are relevant starting points in Nigeria. Confirm current eligibility, agreements and requirements for your actual role with the responsible provider and advisers.

Do not use an old advertised code fee or a generic launch promise as a substitute for current confirmation. A gateway software quotation and short-code or network-service approval are different workstreams.

Prepare a vendor comparison brief

Workstream Questions to resolve
Coverage Countries, operators, code arrangement and production eligibility
Application Menus, languages, business rules and back-end integrations
Capacity Expected traffic, response objectives and tested limits
Operations Monitoring, incident ownership and change management
Commercial scope Setup, usage, approvals, implementation and ongoing support

Plan the complete customer journey

Define what happens when a session starts, a user enters an invalid option, a back-end response is delayed or the journey ends early. State which business actions are complete and which remain pending. Keep customer messages consistent with the actual result.

Use the USSD menu and experience guide for journey design and the developer integration guide for test and handover requirements.

Compare reliability and operating evidence

Ask for measurable service definitions and a test plan suited to your expected traffic. Distinguish application availability, operator access and completion of the business task. A platform being online does not prove that every transaction succeeds.

Confirm support hours, escalation, incident records and the responsibility for each dependency. Review the USSD reliability and analytics guide before accepting broad uptime or failover claims.

Protect customer data and transaction controls

Limit information collected and displayed to what the approved service needs. Define access, logging, retention and incident responsibilities. Financial actions require an appropriate provider arrangement and trusted confirmation from the responsible payment or banking system.

The USSD payment and commerce guide explains how to separate a menu interaction from the underlying transaction outcome. For broader communications, review the telecom API platform guide.

Request a USSD project discussion

Send Wigmore Trading the service concept, markets, operators, expected traffic, existing code or provider details and launch timetable. Include a flow diagram and public documentation links where available. We can assess discovery, sourcing, integration, testing and support requirements and clarify which approvals and capabilities need confirmation.
