USSD reliability should be measured across the network, gateway, application and business system. A dashboard showing that servers are online does not prove that customers can complete their task. For Nigeria and Africa-wide projects, define the service and dependencies before accepting a broad uptime claim.
Wigmore Trading accepts enquiries for USSD monitoring and operational-improvement project scoping. Share current architecture, traffic profile and recurring issues so the team can assess integration, analytics and support requirements.
Separate the measures that matter
Define availability, response time, session continuation, task completion and downstream transaction outcome separately. Specify measurement periods and exclusions. A single percentage can hide an unavailable operator connection or a slow back-end service.
Keep country and operator differences visible where they affect the service. Do not promise uniform Africa-wide performance from one test environment or one provider connection.
Map the dependencies
Identify the parties responsible for operator access, gateway, hosting, application, identity checks and any payment or enterprise systems. Record the evidence available at each boundary and the support route for incidents.
A controlled dependency map helps distinguish a network issue from an application error. It also makes service commitments and operational ownership easier to evaluate.
Design actionable dashboards
| View | Question it should answer |
|---|---|
| Session outcomes | Which journeys complete, end normally or remain unresolved? |
| Response performance | Where does the customer experience delay? |
| Traffic | How does demand compare with tested capacity? |
| Errors | Which failures need investigation and by whom? |
| Business results | Did the downstream order or transaction complete? |
Evaluate load and failover plans
Ask for capacity assumptions and provider-approved tests relevant to expected demand. Include busy periods, downstream delays and recovery after disruption. Load balancing and failover should preserve the session and business-state controls required by the design.
Moving traffic must not create duplicate orders or financial actions. Define when a switch is permitted, which records remain authoritative and who authorises the change.
Handle interrupted and uncertain work
Distinguish a session ending from a confirmed business failure. A customer can lose the session while a downstream request continues. Decide how support and the user can find the final result without repeating the original action blindly.
The developer guide covers repeated requests and test cases. Use the payment workflow guide for money-related operations and the menu guide for safe customer messages.
Protect analytics and session records
Collect only the information needed for the approved service and investigations. Define retention, access and redaction for session and transaction logs. Avoid putting personal or account information into broadly accessible dashboards.
Have privacy and security owners review the data flow, particularly when information crosses providers or countries. Operational visibility should not become unnecessary customer surveillance.
Turn monitoring into an incident process
Agree alert thresholds, owners, escalation and evidence needed for each incident class. Maintain a record of the customer impact, cause and corrective action. A monitoring tool is useful only when the team knows how to respond.
Review service changes and provider updates regularly. Confirm what is included in support, how maintenance is communicated and how performance is assessed against the agreed definitions.
Request a reliability or analytics assessment
Send Wigmore Trading the service, countries, operators, expected and current traffic, systems and redacted examples of unresolved sessions. State the measures you need to improve. We can assess discovery, monitoring, testing and handover scope, with capabilities and commitments confirmed for the proposed arrangement.
