Steel, iron products, iron ore and ferroalloys from India require grade-level specifications and a clear use case. A fabricator buying structural sections has different requirements from a mill buying raw material. Separate raw material, semi-finished and finished products

Coated flat-rolled material needs the base grade, coating specification and finish. Stainless bars and wide flat products need the exact alloy and condition. Pipe dimensions alone do not establish pressure suitability or material performance.
Quality documentation and inspection
Request the applicable material test records and traceability to heats, batches or lots. Agree mechanical, chemical and dimensional acceptance requirements. Documents for an unrelated heat or a different thickness should not be accepted as evidence for the offered material.
For ore and ferroalloys, establish the sampling and analysis basis, quantity measurement and treatment of moisture. For fabricated structures, approve drawings, welding or fabrication requirements and inspection stages before production.
Match the product to the project
Construction, pressure systems, machinery and general fabrication can require different standards. The buyer’s engineer should approve substitutions. A cheaper grade that cannot meet the design is not a saving.
Clarify whether machining, cutting, drilling, coating or assembly is included. Standard stock material and custom fabrication have different lead times and acceptance processes. Verify the supplier’s capability for the actual work rather than relying on a broad manufacturing description.
Export and destination checks
Confirm current export policy, classification, applicable product standards and destination requirements before contracting. Relevant duties, trade measures or conformity procedures can depend on origin, grade and form. Do not assume a general steel quotation settles those issues.
Specify corrosion protection, bundle identification, lifting arrangements and weight distribution. Dense metal cargo can reach equipment or container limits before using the available volume. The packing and transport plan should be approved for the actual weights.
