Buy from Ghana, with our team in Accra
Ghana is the world’s second-largest cocoa producer and Africa’s biggest gold producer, and it is also a leading source of shea butter, cashew and pineapples. Two of those, cocoa beans and small-scale gold, are sold through state bodies, which is why so many private offers for them online are not what they seem. Our Accra team knows which products you can buy directly and which you can’t.
What you can buy from Ghana, and how
| Product | Can you buy it directly? | How we do it |
|---|---|---|
| Shea butter & shea nuts | Yes | From women’s cooperatives and processors in the north; graded A, B or C |
| Raw cashew nuts & kernels | Yes, in season | Season usually starts around February; we check moisture and outturn (KOR) |
| Pineapples, mangoes & papaya | Yes | Fresh by air or reefer, or dried and juiced |
| Cocoa beans | Not from private sellers | Ghana’s cocoa beans are marketed through COCOBOD; we can supply cocoa products from local processors |
| Gold (small-scale) | Not from private sellers | Small-scale gold exports now go through the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod); offers that bypass it are a red flag |
| Kente, batik & crafts | Yes | From weavers and craft markets in Accra and the Ashanti region |
If someone offers you Ghanaian gold or cocoa beans at a discount, outside the state bodies, with an upfront fee, walk away. Read our anti-fraud guide.

Cocoa exporter enquiries and traceable supply from Ghana
For a cocoa exporter in Ghana, specify the bean type or processed cocoa product, quality limits, volume, packaging and destination. Ask the proposed seller to explain the lawful supply and export route, identify the relevant approvals and provide evidence tied to the actual lot. An enquiry to Wigmore is a starting point for sourcing assessment, rather than confirmation of a producer allocation.
A traceable cocoa supplier should connect lot records to the relevant origin and handling chain, with the depth of evidence appropriate to the buyer and destination requirements. Define moisture, fermentation, defect and testing requirements, then agree sampling and acceptance. Do not assume “organic”, “sustainable” or other certification applies without checking the scope, validity and transaction evidence.
For repeat purchases, agree the delivery programme, sample approval, permitted variation and how a non-conforming lot will be handled. Compare the full delivered cost on equivalent quality and packaging terms. A headline price does not show the cost of testing, storage, freight or delays.
Gold supplier Ghana: use the current licensed route
Gold enquiries require particular care. Ghana Gold Board publishes its role in gold trading, licensing, assay and export. Verify the current lawful route and counterparties with GoldBod before discussing a transaction. Historic licences, photographs of bars and promised discounts do not establish authority, ownership or lawful export eligibility.
Wigmore’s role here is to discuss responsible sourcing and documentation enquiries; this page does not claim that Wigmore is a GoldBod licensee or holds gold allocations. Read our detailed Ghana gold sourcing and buyer-check guide before proceeding.
Prepare a useful enquiry for our team
Send the product form, specification, volume, destination, buyer identity and due-diligence requirements. Explain whether you need an initial market assessment or have an established procurement programme. Any proposed supply must first satisfy the applicable licensing, documentation and counterparty checks.
For connected purchases, use our Ghana construction and mining equipment guide, responsible mineral procurement guide and freight planning guide.
Prepare your enquiry: five-point checklist
