Agent commission disputes often begin with a rule that was clear to one team and ambiguous to another. A commission management project should make the earning event, calculation, approval and payout understandable to both the business and its agents. The goal is to remove avoidable disputes while preserving financial control.

Wigmore Trading welcomes enquiries for agent revenue and incentive management planning. Bring your commission policy and current calculation process so the software requirements can be discussed against real examples.

Define what earns commission

Write each rule in plain language before configuring it: eligible service, transaction status, period, rate or fixed amount, caps, exclusions and effective date. Specify how failed, reversed and disputed transactions are treated. An instruction submitted by an agent may not be the same as a completed, commissionable service.

Keep the version of the rule used for each calculation. If a rate changes next month, historical statements should still explain the earlier calculation. Recalculating old periods using the latest rate can create incorrect liabilities.

Distinguish sales, revenue and incentives

Measure Why the distinction matters
Transaction value Money moved is not necessarily revenue earned.
Fee revenue Provider charges and other obligations may affect net revenue.
Commission earned The contractual amount attributable to qualifying activity.
Commission payable The approved amount due after relevant adjustments.

Separate internal sales targets from agent remuneration. A recruitment bonus should not encourage applications that bypass verification. Incentives need quality measures as well as activity measures.

Give agents an explainable statement

A statement should show the period, qualifying activity, applicable rule, adjustments and payout reference. Where individual transactions are listed, reveal only the information the agent is authorised to see. Provide a dispute route with a deadline and case reference.

Consider an agent who sees fewer earnings after a reversal. Showing only a lower total is unhelpful. Showing the original earning, reversal adjustment and linked reference makes the change reviewable. Retain the original record rather than deleting it.

Approval and payout should be separate steps

Configure permission boundaries for rule editing, calculation runs, exception approval and payout authorisation. Record why a manual adjustment was necessary. Finance should be able to reproduce a period’s result from its inputs without relying on the memory of the operator who ran it.

Integrate approved amounts with the agreed payout provider only after controls are tested. A commission calculation is not proof that money has been sent. Reconcile payout outcomes and clearly label unpaid or returned amounts.

How to compare commission software

Ask for a demonstration using a small test dataset containing normal transactions, reversals, a rate change and an agent joining halfway through a period. Compare the result with a manually verified expected statement. Include rounding, time zones and month-end boundaries in the test.

Price the complete workflow: rule configuration, integrations, historical data, statements, support and changes. A highly customised incentive plan may need more implementation effort than a simple standard schedule.

Can incentives guarantee network growth?

No. Agent quality, service reliability, location, customer demand and support also affect performance. Treat incentives as a controlled operating policy rather than a growth guarantee.

How can Wigmore help us start?

Share your policy, network scale, payout frequency and recurring disputes. The team can discuss a requirements review and confirm suitable delivery options before commercial commitments are made.

Prepare your project enquiry

Before contacting us, note your operating country and locations, organisation type, existing systems, priority problems, expected scale and desired pilot date. List the capabilities you need and the evidence you want to see in a demonstration. Do not send passwords, API secrets, identity documents or customer financial and health records through an initial enquiry.

This checklist is for your own preparation; it does not submit or store information.
