In September 2026, a used iPhone 6 costs about ₦25,000 to ₦110,000 in Nigeria. Most Lagos listings on Jiji sit between ₦25,000 and ₦50,000, and 64GB and 128GB units cost more. Nobody sells it new any more. Before you buy, know this: the iPhone 6 can’t go past iOS 12, so it can’t run the current WhatsApp. For most buyers, a used iPhone 7 (from about ₦50,000) is the better buy.

iPhone 6 price in Nigeria by storage (September 2026)
Every iPhone 6 on sale in Nigeria today is second-hand. Here is what sellers were asking on Jiji, Nigeria’s biggest classifieds site, when we checked on 28 September 2026.

So how much is an iPhone 6 now? A fair price for a clean, working 16GB or 32GB unit in Lagos is roughly ₦30,000 to ₦50,000. Above ₦60,000, you’re in iPhone 7 territory (see alternatives). Sellers in Nnewi and Owerri were asking more than Lagos sellers for the same storage. Ikeja, Ojo and Surulere had the most stock at the lowest prices.
For context, Apple launched the iPhone 6 on 19 September 2014, at US$199 for 16GB on a two-year US carrier contract. The phone is now 12 years old, which is why it sells for less than many new budget Androids.
The big catch: iOS 12 and WhatsApp
The earlier version of this guide didn’t mention the most important fact about the iPhone 6 in 2026. It’s stuck on an old operating system, and that stops many apps from working.
- The iPhone 6 can’t update past iOS 12. Apple’s last significant security update for it was iOS 12.5.7, released on 23 January 2023, for the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus.
- Apple’s current security guidance doesn’t cover it. Apple’s April 2026 warning about web-based attacks says devices running updated iOS 15 through iOS 26 are protected. iOS 12 isn’t on that list.
- WhatsApp doesn’t support it. WhatsApp currently needs iOS 15.1 or later. From 30 November 2026 it will need iOS 15.5. MacRumors confirms the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus were cut off entirely because they never got past iOS 12.
- Banking and fintech apps usually need a recent iOS too. Before you pay, check the App Store page of your bank’s app for its “Requires iOS…” line.
Who should still buy one? An iPhone 6 can work as an iPod-style music player, a backup phone for calls and SMS, or a cheap handset for spare parts. It’s a poor choice as your main phone, and a poor choice for resale, because buyers are learning about the WhatsApp problem.
What affects the price of an iPhone 6
- Storage. 64GB and 128GB units cost the most. The 32GB model came later and is less common.
- Condition and parts. Replaced screens, a dead Touch ID and swollen batteries are common on phones this old. Each one should knock thousands off the price.
- Battery health. Many original batteries are badly worn by now. A unit with a fresh battery, and a receipt for it, is worth a little more.
- Lock status. Phones that are “Wi-Fi only”, network-locked or iCloud-locked are listed cheaply for a reason. Avoid them unless you only want parts.
- Seller type and location. Verified business sellers in Nnewi, Owerri or Victoria Island often ask more than individuals in Ojo or Ikeja. What you pay extra for is a return window, so ask whether one is offered.
- Colour. Gold and silver sometimes carry a small premium, but it matters far less than storage or condition.

Better iPhones for similar money
If you want an iPhone mainly for WhatsApp, banking and social media, spend a little more and buy a model that still runs iOS 15 or later.

Worked example. Suppose a seller offers you a 64GB iPhone 6 for ₦90,000. On the same site, a used 32GB iPhone 7 was listed at ₦50,000 to ₦100,000, and a 128GB iPhone 7 at ₦65,000 to ₦115,000. So for the same money or less, you get a phone that runs WhatsApp and can still install current versions of most apps. The iPhone 6 only makes sense if it’s much cheaper, around ₦30,000.

How to buy a used iPhone 6 without getting scammed
- Check Activation Lock first. Apple says you shouldn’t take a used iPhone that is still locked to its previous owner. Ask the seller to sign out of iCloud and erase the phone in front of you, until you see the “Hello” setup screen. If setup asks for someone else’s Apple ID password, walk away. Apple’s Activation Lock guide explains the checks.
- Be wary of “Wi-Fi only” or “no network” ads. These phones are usually carrier-locked or have faulty radios. They’re cheap for a reason.
- Confirm the model. Settings > General > About should show iPhone 6. Some sellers pass off a 6 as a 6s, or the reverse. The 6s has “S” printed on the back, and it supports iOS 15.
- Test Touch ID, the Home button, both cameras, the earpiece, the speaker and the microphone. Make a real call.
- Look at the battery. On iOS 12, Settings > Battery > Battery Health shows the maximum capacity. Below about 80%, budget for a replacement.
- Check the screen for dead touch zones, lifting edges or a dim, bluish replacement panel.
- Match the IMEI. Dial *#06# and compare the number with the SIM tray and the box, if there is one.
- Meet in a public place, test before paying, and get a receipt with the IMEI written on it. Never pay a “delivery fee” in advance to an online seller you don’t know.
