Smirnoff Ice is one of the most familiar ready-to-drink (RTD) bottles in Nigerian bars, supermarkets and party coolers. People search for two things about it. They want to know how strong it is, and how much it costs now. This guide answers both with current listings, then covers the variants actually on Nigerian shelves, how to avoid fakes, and what a case costs if you are buying for an event or a shop.
Smirnoff Ice alcohol percentage
Yes, Smirnoff Ice is alcoholic. It is not a soft drink or a malt drink. Nigerian retailers list it as a “spirit mixed drink”. Naija Liquor describes it as a malt-flavoured, vodka-mixed drink with citrus notes.
The exact strength is not the same everywhere:
- Worldwide range: about 4.5% ABV in the UK, 5.0% in the United States and up to 7% in some other markets (Smirnoff overview, Wikipedia). The US version is brewed and contains no vodka. Versions sold elsewhere contain Smirnoff vodka.
- Nigeria (original): a 2012 Nairametrics comparison listed Smirnoff Ice at 5.5%. That was higher than Star (5.2%), Gulder (5.2%), Harp (5.1%) and Heineken (5.0%), and below Guinness Foreign Extra Stout (7.5%). The figure is old, so treat it as a guide.
- Double Black with guarana: the variant sold in Nigeria and South Africa is listed at 6.5% ABV.
We could not find a current 2026 ABV figure for Nigerian Smirnoff Ice from the brand owner. Retailer product pages we checked (Supermart.ng, Naija Liquor and Bottle King) do not state it either. The reliable answer is on the label. Every can and bottle must print its alcohol content, so check before you buy, especially if you are driving or serving guests.
Does the big bottle have more alcohol?
The 60cl “big bottle” usually has the same percentage as the 30–33cl bottle. The difference is that it holds about twice as much drink, so you take in about twice as much alcohol. As a worked example at 5.5% ABV:
| Pack | Volume | Pure alcohol at 5.5% | Pure alcohol at 6.5% |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small bottle | 30cl | about 16.5ml | about 19.5ml |
| Can / bottle | 33cl | about 18ml | about 21.5ml |
| Tall can | 44cl | about 24ml | about 28.5ml |
| Big bottle | 60cl | about 33ml | about 39ml |
Simple arithmetic: volume × ABV. Use the percentage printed on your own bottle.
In practice, one 60cl bottle of Smirnoff Ice holds a similar amount of alcohol to a 60cl bottle of Star or Gulder. It goes down much faster because it is sweet and fizzy.

What that works out to per can: a case bought online costs about ₦935–₦1,050 per can. That is about the same as, or slightly less than, buying singles. Buying by the case mainly helps when you would otherwise pay bar or kiosk prices.
The 2024 version of this guide quoted ₦800–₦1,500 per bottle and ₦18,000–₦30,000 per 24-pack. Current online case prices sit inside that old range. Single bottles are now clustered around ₦1,000.
Flavours and variants sold in Nigeria
Many older articles, including our own 2024 version, listed Green Apple, Electric Grape and “Screwdriver” flavours. Those are sold in other markets. We did not find them in Nigerian retail listings in September 2026. These are the variants we found on sale:
| Variant | Taste | Packs seen | Typical single price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smirnoff Ice (original) | Crisp lemon-citrus | 30cl and 60cl bottle, 33cl and 44cl can | ₦1,000–₦1,180 (30–33cl) |
| Smirnoff Ice Double Black (with guarana) | Darker, sweeter, with guarana; listed at 6.5% ABV | 33cl bottle, 44cl can | ₦970–₦1,185 |
| Smirnoff Ice Pineapple Punch | Pineapple-led, fruity | 33cl bottle and can | ₦970–₦1,025 |
Based on Supermart.ng and Jumia listings, September 2026. Stock rotates, so a variant missing online may still be in shops near you.
Double Black contains guarana, a caffeine source, but it is not an energy drink. It is an alcoholic drink with some caffeine. Doctors generally advise against mixing alcohol and caffeine, because the stimulant can hide how drunk you are. If you want a true energy drink, see our list of energy drinks in Nigeria and their prices.
What affects the price of Smirnoff Ice
- Where you buy: online supermarkets and distributors are cheapest. Lounges, clubs and hotels can charge several times the shelf price for a chilled bottle.
- Pack size: 24-can cases save a little per can online and a lot compared with bar prices.
- Promotions: Jumia’s official-store cases were heavily discounted from list price when we checked. Discounts come and go.
- Location and delivery: Lagos and Abuja usually have the widest choice. Delivery fees, and transport to other states, add to the landed cost.
- Input costs: cans, glass, sugar, flavourings and energy are all affected by exchange-rate moves and fuel prices. Expect prices to move a few times a year.
Where to buy Smirnoff Ice in Nigeria
Online
- Supermart.ng: the widest range we found, covering the original, Double Black and Pineapple Punch, singles and cases, with delivery in Lagos and Abuja.
- Jumia: 44cl × 24 cases sold through the brand’s official store.
- Bottle King, Naija Liquor, Drinks Online Store: Lagos drinks e-shops selling singles and cases.
- Jiji: private sellers, often cheapest, but you must vet the seller (see the fake-spotting checklist below).
In person
Big supermarkets such as Shoprite and SPAR, neighbourhood drinks depots, and bars. Depots in markets usually beat supermarket prices on cases but vary in quality control. For more options, read where to buy original drinks in Lagos.
How to spot fake Smirnoff Ice
RTDs are faked less often than whisky or cognac, but refilled bottles and expired stock do circulate, especially at parties and informal depots. Before you pay:
- Check the NAFDAC number is printed on the label or can. A missing or smudged number is a red flag.
- Look at the crown cork or can end. It should be tight and clean, with no rust, glue or signs it was re-crimped. A cap that turns loosely has been tampered with.
- Read the batch and expiry print. It should be sharp and machine-printed. Expired RTDs taste flat and sour.
- Compare the label with a bottle from a supermarket. Look for blurred printing, wrong colours, spelling errors and labels that peel easily.
- Distrust very low prices. A case far below ₦20,000 in 2026 is either old stock, grey stock or not genuine.
- Buy from a traceable seller who gives a receipt and a physical address.

A note on the NAFDAC small-pack ban: NAFDAC banned alcoholic drinks in sachets and containers below 200ml from 1 January 2026. In September 2026 it ordered a nationwide recall of such products. Smirnoff Ice’s 30cl-and-above packs are not affected, but it is a useful reminder to stock only registered, full-size products.

Buying Smirnoff Ice for a party, bar or shop
Worked example: a 50-guest party
Plan on about 2 RTDs per guest who drinks. For 50 guests that is 100 cans, or just over 4 cases, so buy 5 cases of 24 (120 cans).
- At the Jumia official-store price of ₦24,074 per 44cl case: 5 × ₦24,074 = ₦120,370
- At the Supermart price of ₦25,120 per 33cl case: 5 × ₦25,120 = ₦125,600
- Buying 120 singles at about ₦1,000–₦1,180 each: ₦120,000–₦141,600, with more handling
Add ice and coolers, and keep plenty of water and soft drinks for guests who do not drink. Our guide to popular drinks in Nigeria and their prices helps you balance the mix. The crate-of-beer price guide covers the beer side.
For retailers
- Buy in cases from a supplier who gives invoices. You will need them if NAFDAC or a customer questions your stock.
- Rotate stock first-in, first-out and check expiry dates on delivery.
- Keep RTDs out of direct sun. Heat damages the flavour quickly.
- Stock two variants rather than five. In most shops the original and Double Black move fastest.
Wigmore’s online store, Wigmore Wholesale, did not list Smirnoff products when we checked. Trade buyers can request a sourcing quote through the trade desk, or contact our wine and drinks distribution team in Lagos.
18+ only. Please drink responsibly. Smirnoff Ice tastes like a soft drink but contains alcohol. Do not drink and drive, keep it away from under-18s, and avoid it if you are pregnant.
