Rig reliability work should make maintenance and procurement decisions easier to explain. A fleet dashboard is useful only when asset records, failure history and spare-parts information are dependable. Operators seeking downtime reduction need an evidence-based plan rather than an unsupported promise of improved uptime.
Wigmore Trading welcomes asset-management, spares sourcing and maintenance-planning enquiries for Nigerian drilling projects. Software, inspection, engineering and logistics responsibilities should be confirmed as separate workstreams where needed.
Create a reliable asset register
Identify assets, equipment hierarchy, manufacturer references, configuration and ownership. Record which documents and maintenance requirements apply to each item. A mixed list of purchase descriptions is not a controlled equipment register.
Keep changes traceable when equipment moves between rigs or is replaced. A fleet report should distinguish stored, under repair, available and accepted-for-project status rather than display every asset as ready.
Prioritise spares against actual risk
| Input | Decision it supports |
|---|---|
| Asset criticality | Which failures materially affect safety or operations? |
| Failure and service history | What evidence supports the maintenance plan? |
| Lead time | Which items need earlier procurement or local holding? |
| Compatibility | Which parts are approved for the actual configuration? |
| Storage condition | Can the held item remain suitable until needed? |
Qualified technical teams should define criticality and approved alternatives. A large warehouse value does not prove the right spares are available when required.
Make inventory and warehouse records usable
Track receipt, inspection, location, issue, return and quarantine status. Separate serviceable, awaiting inspection and nonconforming items. Preserve batch or serial traceability where relevant.
Include storage, preservation and shelf-life requirements from the manufacturer. An apparently unused spare may be unsuitable if its condition or history cannot be demonstrated. Record the basis for releasing an item to maintenance.
Use performance measures with context
Define downtime, availability and maintenance completion consistently. Distinguish equipment failure from waiting for parts, access, approvals or another contractor. A single uptime percentage can hide very different causes and actions.
Track recurring faults and whether corrective actions were effective. Do not reward a maintenance-completion metric that encourages staff to close incomplete work. Auditable records are more valuable than a superficially perfect dashboard.
Scope audits to produce decisions
A rig operations or performance audit should have a defined purpose, evidence base and qualified reviewer. State whether it examines records, maintenance systems, procurement controls or technical condition. Certification and statutory inspection are separate questions.
Agree how findings will be prioritised, assigned and closed. Include implementation support only where it is part of the contract. An audit report without accountable follow-up may not change reliability.
Can software prevent every outage?
No. Data and tools support decisions; equipment condition, competent maintenance, operating practices and logistics also matter. Any claimed improvement should be measured against an agreed baseline.
How can Wigmore help us begin?
Share the fleet or asset scope, current records, recurring problems, spares constraints and desired deliverables. The team can discuss a practical procurement or support package and confirm appropriate specialist involvement.
Prepare your rig-services enquiry
Before contacting us, note the asset type and identity, project location, intended work, approved specifications, programme dates and current readiness. Identify the equipment, personnel or services required and who controls technical acceptance. Separate confirmed information from assumptions and list any approvals still outstanding.
Use a non-confidential brief initially. Do not send credentials, restricted well data, private personnel records or confidential contract files through a general sales enquiry. This checklist is for your own preparation and does not submit information.
