Workover, well re-entry, infill drilling and plug-and-abandonment projects should not be treated as interchangeable rig rentals. A mature asset may have historical records, existing infrastructure and uncertainties that materially affect the required equipment and services. Procurement needs a clear, approved technical basis.
Wigmore Trading welcomes rig, equipment and specialist-service sourcing enquiries for defined Nigerian projects. The operator and qualified well specialists must establish the programme, barriers, procedures and acceptance requirements. This guide contains no well-intervention or abandonment instructions.
Identify the actual project objective
State whether the request concerns well servicing, workover, re-entry, sidetrack, field redevelopment, infill drilling or permanent abandonment. A production objective and a decommissioning objective can require different deliverables and contractual responsibilities.
Provide the non-confidential asset context and available records. Identify information gaps for the responsible technical team rather than assume a standard package can safely address them.
Separate equipment from the complete service
| Enquiry | Scope to define |
|---|---|
| Workover rig or hoist | Approved suitability requirements and included equipment |
| Intervention unit or vessel | Well-service and marine responsibilities |
| Re-entry or sidetrack campaign | Engineering, rig, specialist services and operating interfaces |
| Abandonment or decommissioning | Approved programme, acceptance evidence and end-state responsibilities |
A rig described as available does not establish suitability for a particular well. Have the authorised technical team evaluate the offered configuration and supporting records.
Review brownfield interfaces
Existing facilities, simultaneous activities, access restrictions and historical modifications can affect the scope. Identify the operator’s interface-management process and the specialists required to assess it. Keep equipment changes and assumptions documented.
For mature fields, coordinate inspection and condition evidence with the planned work. Unknown or incomplete records should be escalated for professional assessment rather than silently accepted as normal.
Define regulatory and technical deliverables
Confirm the current approval and reporting requirements with NUPRC and the responsible advisers. Distinguish contractor reports, independent inspection and formal project acceptance. A completion certificate from one service provider does not close every project obligation.
For abandonment, the operator’s approved programme should define the required end state and evidence. Procurement documents should reflect those requirements without substituting a generic equipment checklist.
Compare costs and schedule on the same basis
Include asset preparation, mobilisation, crew, specialist services, consumables, inspection and demobilisation. Identify how additional work and unexpected conditions will be handled commercially.
A short hire period can still involve substantial preparation and logistics. Ask for a complete proposal with assumptions and exclusions rather than infer the project cost from a day rate.
Does a workover-rig quote include engineering?
Only where the written scope says so. Identify the actual engineering provider, deliverables and authority before relying on an integrated-service description.
What should I send Wigmore?
Provide the project objective, region, planned dates, approved equipment requirements and desired service boundary. The team can discuss sourcing and coordination options and confirm what evidence is needed for a proposal.
Prepare your rig-services enquiry
Before contacting us, note the asset type and identity, project location, intended work, approved specifications, programme dates and current readiness. Identify the equipment, personnel or services required and who controls technical acceptance. Separate confirmed information from assumptions and list any approvals still outstanding.
Use a non-confidential brief initially. Do not send credentials, restricted well data, private personnel records or confidential contract files through a general sales enquiry. This checklist is for your own preparation and does not submit information.
