A drilling campaign enquiry should connect the well objectives to the equipment, people and services needed. Exploration, appraisal, development and production programmes can require different commercial and technical arrangements. Choosing a rig from a headline horsepower or a day rate alone is not an adequate project assessment.
Wigmore Trading welcomes rig sourcing, equipment procurement and project-coordination enquiries for Nigeria. The operator and qualified well-engineering specialists must define the programme and technical requirements. This guide does not provide well-design or drilling instructions.
Define the programme before selecting the rig
Identify the intended work, location, proposed schedule and approved basis for rig suitability. State whether the campaign covers one well, multiple wells or a sequence of different activities. The technical team should determine the required capabilities and constraints.
For Niger Delta, Anambra Basin, Benue Trough, Dahomey Basin or Chad Basin enquiries, do not assume the region alone determines the rig. Site conditions, access, well objectives and available infrastructure need project-specific review.
Choose the contracting boundary
| Package | What must be clear |
|---|---|
| Bare or dry lease | Asset scope and the customer’s operating responsibilities |
| Operated or crewed package | Personnel, maintenance and operational accountability |
| Integrated services | Which specialist services and interfaces are actually included? |
| Turnkey proposal | Defined deliverable, acceptance, assumptions and change mechanism |
Terms such as integrated well delivery or full-service rental should be supported by a responsibility matrix. A broad label should not hide exclusions.
Plan engineering and specialist interfaces
Identify the operator’s technical authority and the parties responsible for well planning, programme management, supervision and specialist services. Directional, horizontal, high-angle or other complex-well requirements need the appropriate approved engineering and competent contractors.
Coordinate the rig, downhole equipment, mud systems, well-control equipment and support services against the approved specification. Procurement should not alter the technical basis merely to match an available asset.
Build a realistic campaign schedule
Include site readiness, approvals, asset preparation, mobilisation, commissioning, crew readiness and service dependencies. For multiple wells, identify move and support requirements between locations. Ask for a dated availability proposal rather than a universal mobilisation promise.
Clarify the commercial treatment of standby, delays, changes in scope and demobilisation. The programme should show which assumptions are confirmed and which depend on unresolved approvals or third parties.
Measure performance with a defined baseline
Agree reporting on schedule, cost, operational exceptions and action closure. Distinguish time attributed to equipment, planning, logistics and external constraints. A lower day rate does not necessarily produce a lower completed-well cost.
Optimisation proposals need evidence and technical review. No supplier should guarantee a drilling result, production outcome or universal cost saving from a general service description.
Can one rig serve every campaign phase?
That depends on suitability and the approved work. The responsible technical team should assess each phase and any required configuration changes.
What should an enquiry contain?
Send the non-confidential programme summary, location, dates, approved rig requirements and desired contract package. Wigmore can assess sourcing and coordination options and confirm a defined commercial scope.
Prepare your rig-services enquiry
Before contacting us, note the asset type and identity, project location, intended work, approved specifications, programme dates and current readiness. Identify the equipment, personnel or services required and who controls technical acceptance. Separate confirmed information from assumptions and list any approvals still outstanding.
Use a non-confidential brief initially. Do not send credentials, restricted well data, private personnel records or confidential contract files through a general sales enquiry. This checklist is for your own preparation and does not submit information.
