A drilling manpower request should define the work, competence and operating responsibilities before asking for a list of available personnel. Supplying an individual technician, a complete crew and a managed drilling service are different commercial packages. Clear boundaries help an operator evaluate both capability and accountability.

Wigmore Trading welcomes drilling-crew and oilfield manpower sourcing enquiries in Nigeria. The actual employer, specialist provider, personnel availability and service scope must be confirmed for the project. This page does not advertise guaranteed vacancies or an immediately available crew.

Describe the roles and reporting structure

A request may include rig managers, toolpushers, drillers, assistant drillers, derrickmen, roughnecks and roustabouts, alongside mechanics, electricians and instrumentation technicians. Engineering and oversight roles can include drilling or well engineers, superintendents, drilling supervisors and operator representatives.

Directional drilling personnel, mud engineers, well-control specialists and HSE staff need clearly defined scopes. A job title alone does not establish competence or the authority to make a particular operational decision.

Use a role-specific competence matrix

Area Evidence to define
Technical suitability Relevant experience with the rig, equipment and planned work
Training Required course, level, provider and certificate-verification method
Deployment readiness Applicable travel, site and employer requirements
Supervision Reporting line, decision authority and escalation
Continuity Rotations, handover, replacement and absence arrangements

The operator and responsible employer should establish the appropriate requirements. Do not assume a certificate replaces experience or that experience removes the need for required training.

Distinguish manpower from managed operations

In a personnel-supply arrangement, identify who supervises the work, controls the programme and provides equipment. In an operated package, define what operational responsibility the contractor accepts. Terms such as rig and crew rental should not leave this question unanswered.

Specify who handles payroll, insurance, travel, accommodation, PPE, training renewals and local employment obligations. Any proposed international personnel deployment needs its own legal and immigration review.

Plan rotations and handovers

Align crew availability with mobilisation, commissioning and the actual campaign. Define the handover records and expected overlap where the approved staffing plan requires it. An incomplete crew should not be treated as ready because the most visible senior role has been filled.

Discuss fatigue management, replacements and escalation through the responsible employer and operator. Do not create an unrealistic staffing model merely to reduce the quoted personnel cost.

Protect recruitment and personnel information

Initial enquiries should describe roles and requirements without sending passports, medical records or other sensitive personnel files through a general sales channel. Agree appropriate handling before reviewing individual candidates’ restricted records.

Verify references and certificates through legitimate channels. Avoid presenting unverified CVs as confirmed available staff. Any named candidate should be assessed and accepted under the client’s approved process.

Can Wigmore guarantee a complete crew?

Availability and provider capability need confirmation against the project and dates. A written proposal should identify roles, evidence and replacement terms.

What should a first enquiry include?

Send the rig type, location, work scope, role schedule, required competence, deployment dates and commercial package. The team can assess the sourcing enquiry and confirm the next steps.

Prepare your rig-services enquiry

Before contacting us, note the asset type and identity, project location, intended work, approved specifications, programme dates and current readiness. Identify the equipment, personnel or services required and who controls technical acceptance. Separate confirmed information from assumptions and list any approvals still outstanding.

Use a non-confidential brief initially. Do not send credentials, restricted well data, private personnel records or confidential contract files through a general sales enquiry. This checklist is for your own preparation and does not submit information.
