A rig commissioning enquiry should define the condition in which the equipment must be handed over and who is authorised to accept it. Delivery, installation, testing and readiness for a specific well are different milestones. Treating them as one event can leave unresolved work at the point a drilling campaign expects to start.

Wigmore Trading welcomes enquiries for commissioning procurement, technical-support coordination and associated equipment or logistics requirements in Nigeria. Share your approved scope so the actual specialists, deliverables and commercial responsibilities can be confirmed. This guide is not an operating or well-control procedure.

Define the handover boundary

State whether the project is a newbuild, a relocated rig, a refurbished asset or a return from storage. Identify which systems and interfaces are included and which remain with another contractor. Agree the difference between mechanical completion, commissioning completion and operator acceptance.

A vendor’s factory test does not automatically establish readiness after transport and integration. The responsible engineering and operating teams should define the evidence needed at each stage, including treatment of changes made during installation.

Build a commissioning deliverables register

Workstream Evidence to define
Equipment identity Asset records, serial references and agreed configuration
Installation interfaces Approved drawings, responsibilities and inspection records
Testing and acceptance Authorised procedures, witnesses, results and sign-off criteria
Handover Operating documentation, maintenance information and outstanding-work register

The technical authority should determine actual test methods and limits. Procurement staff should request the approved requirements rather than invent generic acceptance values.

Control punch-list items and changes

Record each outstanding item, its significance, owner, due date and closure evidence. A commercially convenient handover date should not turn an unresolved safety-critical issue into an accepted condition. Any conditional acceptance needs the appropriate authorised review.

Keep configuration changes traceable. If a component is substituted, review compatibility, documentation, spares and maintenance implications before accepting the replacement. A similar catalogue description is not proof of equivalence.

Plan people, access and startup support

Identify the commissioning lead, OEM or authorised specialist involvement, operator representatives and support coverage. Agree site access, travel readiness, tools, consumables and accommodation before scheduling attendance. A service engineer’s arrival should not be delayed by missing prerequisites that were outside the quote.

Define what startup support means: attendance, troubleshooting within an agreed scope, training handover or a defined support period. It should not imply the supplier takes over the operator’s well responsibilities unless a contract explicitly establishes that role.

Compare complete proposals

Separate preparation, mobilisation, specialist attendance, inspection, documentation, consumables and follow-up visits. State working assumptions, standby treatment, exclusions and how additional work will be approved. Include the format and ownership of the final records.

Can commissioning guarantee the rig is suitable for every well?

No. Suitability depends on the asset, approved configuration and the particular project. Commissioning evidence forms part of that assessment.

What should I send Wigmore?

Provide rig type, location, current condition, planned dates, approved acceptance requirements and the support package needed. The team can assess sourcing and coordination options and confirm the actual service scope.

Prepare your rig-services enquiry

Before contacting us, note the asset type and identity, project location, intended work, approved specifications, programme dates and current readiness. Identify the equipment, personnel or services required and who controls technical acceptance. Separate confirmed information from assumptions and list any approvals still outstanding.

Use a non-confidential brief initially. Do not send credentials, restricted well data, private personnel records or confidential contract files through a general sales enquiry. This checklist is for your own preparation and does not submit information.
