Position Overview

The Chief Geopolitical Risk & Intelligence Officer (CGRIO) is responsible for providing the Board and Executive Leadership Team with strategic insights into geopolitical developments, economic trends, regulatory shifts and security risks that may affect the Group’s operations and investments.

The role focuses on helping the Group anticipate change, evaluate opportunities, and strengthen enterprise resilience. The successful candidate will establish an intelligence function that gathers and analyzes information from lawful, ethical, and authorized sources to support strategic decision-making.

This role does not involve the use or disclosure of classified or confidential government information. Its purpose is to transform complex public, commercial, and operational information into actionable business intelligence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the Group’s Strategic Intelligence Office.
  • Produce geopolitical and economic risk assessments.
  • Monitor political, regulatory and security developments across Africa.
  • Support investment decisions with market intelligence and scenario analysis.
  • Lead enterprise risk horizon scanning.
  • Coordinate crisis monitoring and strategic response planning.
  • Develop country risk ratings for current and prospective markets.
  • Conduct commercial due diligence on major projects and partnerships.
  • Advise the Board on emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Build relationships with reputable think tanks, universities and research institutions.
  • Present quarterly strategic intelligence reports to the Executive Committee.

  • Director or Deputy Director, National Intelligence Agency (NIA)
  • Senior Director, Department of State Services (DSS)
  • Senior Intelligence Officer, Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA)
  • Senior Military Intelligence Commander
  • Senior Intelligence Executive within ECOWAS or AU peace and security institutions

National Security

  • Director of Strategic Planning within Defence Headquarters
